This is a perfect meal if you made pizza previous night (which we did). Typically when we make pizza we end up having lots of left over ingredients like sauce, pepperonis, cheese, toppings, etc that would normally sit in the refrigerator for a few days before getting tossed out. This meal makes good use of those leftovers and also incorporates a few other ingredients.
1/2 loaf of French bread
Left over pizza sauce
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. While the oven is prehearing, cut your French bread into 1 inch slices and place on a baking sheet.
Slice your basil in to thin strips
Without using any of the leftover pizza sauce, build your “pizza” in any order you want.
Once built, place in the oven for about 8 to 10 minutes. While in the oven, heat the leftover sauce on the stove top on medium-low and transfer to a serving bowl when you take the pan out of the oven. I like to dip things, which is why I left the sauce off of the french bread; however, you could just as easily put the sauce on the bread as well.
Also, the The Dreaming Tree (Cabernet Sauvingon) pairs really well with the French Bread Pizza. It costs about $8.99 per bottle, which isn’t too bad considering that most of the ingredients for this meal were already in the refrigerator.
